Martin Collins provides riding surface for BBC One Show
17/10/2016 15:30:00

Martin Collins proved just why they are the world’s leading provider of riding surfaces when rising to the challenge set for them this week by the BBC and The Spanish Riding School of Vienna which was to feature on The One Show.

At the insistence of the Spanish Riding School, who use a Martin Collins Ecotrack surface at home in Vienna and on tour, the BBC approached the Company with a brief to install a temporary surface in the piazza of Broadcasting House in London W1 which would meet the exacting requirements of this most famous school of equitation.

With only a week of planning, the Martin Collins team brought in over 30 tons of surface which had to be wheeled in by barrow because of heavy vehicle restrictions on-site. It took 20 stagehands and 500 barrow loads to bring in the surface and, having started laying it at 6am on the day, the team had prepared and hand raked a 9 metre x 22 metre equestrian arena in time for the first rehearsals at lunchtime.

“The surface is so amazing that we were able to put it straight down on just a membrane and still achieve the high performance demands placed on it.  It was fabulous to watch the horses perform so beautifully on it,” commented Ali Howe for Martin Collins.

The programme, which was broadcast on BBC on Wednesday 5 October, previewed the Spanish Riding School of Vienna’s forthcoming UK tour which takes in Wembley (11-13) November and Birmingham (18-20) November 2016.
