Hills hoping for another good season with new gallop
22/06/2016 09:02:23

Lambourn’s famous Faringdon Place, where Charlie Hills took over from his father, Barry in August 2011, now boasts a newly installed top-of-the-range Martin Collins  training gallop with a blend of Polytrack created especially for training, called Geltrack.

Works on the old woodchip gallop started in the new year and were completed by the end of March, ready for the start of the 2016 flat season.

During this time, the Martin Collins team completely stripped the old gallop, reinstated the edges , refurbished the base and installed a full drainage system, finishing with the installation of one of our top of the range Geltrack as the final gallops surface.  Alastair Down reporting in the Racing Post, 6 June) following a visit to the yard, commented:  “It looks magnificent.”

At 37 years of age, this will be Charlie’s fifth full season when he will be looking to campaign 150 horses (80 of them two year olds), 35 of them owned by Sheikh Hamdan.

Highlights to date include his Irish Guineas in 2013 with Just the Judge and Muhaarar’s four Group 1 wins in 2015 – The Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, the July Cup, the Prix Maurice de Gheest and the big speed race on British Champions Day.
